Ugly Christmas sweaters and tacky Christmas tchotchkes seem to be the nIN thing now and rightly so. They are fun and bring a new level of merriment to the holidays. However, there was a time when these items were not considered funny, comedic, or gag worthy. They were made and sold as a true Christmas delight!

Some now are worth money while others are better left to the donation pile of your local charity thrift. Let's review a few of these fine staples that we have come to love as part of the celebratory season.

Ugly Christmas sweaters. Many come as a boxed DIY project on the corner cap of many stores while others have had add-ons to a perfectly normal sweater for a last minute office party ensemble. The 'good' ones, however, are the ones from the 80's-90's where the designer thought in all creative seriousness that they were designing a true family heirloom that would be treasured and passed down from generation to generation sealing their place in Christmas history as being a designer to remember.

Tacky Christmas decor is like the ugly sweater but for your home. Many people go to IG or Google for inspo pics of beautifully and elaborately decorated homes. Unfortunately, it ends up looking more like a Pinterest fail than a Winter Wonderland of merriment.

However, Christmas Kitsch is where overload and outdated come together to form a feast of holiday amazement. Apparently,  it means decorating with your own traditions and personal preferences in mind instead of trying to follow this year’s trends using family heirlooms and decor that many tossed years ago. It’s about joy over aesthetics, festivity instead of fashion. many users have pointed out, it’s basically how most people decorate for Christmas anyway, and they have done it for years. And if you are, in fact, the kind of person who keeps up with the latest fashions, it’s on-trend this year!

So many fun and highly collectible vintage Christmas decor pieces are out there waiting for you to make them your own next year! Merry Christmas!
