Soda companies have always had to compete to be the top seller of their refreshing carbonated beverages. So it is no surprise to see the array of promotional eye-popping items they would come up with. Malt shops, diners, and drug stores were all places for people to meet and spend a little time socializing. While there, and as you know just by standing in a checkout line, they were lured to these companies with their colorful advertising props.

Now, collectors actively seek these promo items which range from posters, trays, crates, dispensers all the way to full size vending machines and more. Soda fountain memorabilia still dominates the auction houses. Coca-Cola is still the top sought after soda collectible but over all values have dropped some. Now many obscure or forgotten brands are emerging as top auction house sellers as well as in antique shops. Hires Root Beer is second under Coca Cola for top selling collective promotional items. A 5-piece ceramic set by German maker Villeroy & Boch sold for $20,000.

So, next time you're at the flea market or a garage sale, keep your eyes peeled for vintage soda fountain memorabilia. You may have stumbled upon a fortune!
